The Hon. C.L. WINGARD (Gibson—Minister for Police, Emergency Services and Correctional Services, Minister for Recreation, Sport and Racing) (15:12): Can I say that it is good to be building SA. It is good to be with a government that is building South Australia right across the state. Right across our regions, we are building this wonderful state.

Dr HARVEY (Newland) (14:23): My question is to the Minister for Recreation, Sport and Racing. Can the minister inform the house how the Marshall government is providing funding to local sporting clubs to acquire vital life-saving equipment such as defibrillators?
The Hon. C.L. WINGARD (Gibson—Minister for Police, Emergency Services and Correctional Services, Minister for Recreation, Sport and Racing) (14:24): I thank the member for Newland for his very good question and note his keen interest in that. In fact, he and I have a very close association with a young man who did use those—

The Hon. C.L. WINGARD (Gibson—Minister for Police, Emergency Services and Correctional Services, Minister for Recreation, Sport and Racing) (15:18): I rise today to talk about this wonderful budget that was handed down that is really building South Australia, a commitment we made when we came to this parliament. There are so many things in the budget that outline what we are doing to build our great state. I want to address one that has significance in my local community and also that of the Minister for Environment, the member for Black, and something we have been fighting hard for a very long period of time: the Hove crossing.

The Hon. C.L. WINGARD (Gibson—Minister for Police, Emergency Services and Correctional Services, Minister for Recreation, Sport and Racing) (14:50): I truly thank the member for King for her interest in this. This is a great initiative and a very important project for South Australia. I am pleased to inform the house that this is another example of how well the Marshall government and the Morrison government have come together to jointly fund an exciting and innovative project. The new community transition and learning centre will be built in Coober Pedy and, again, this is how and why we are delivering better services for South Australia.

The Hon. C.L. WINGARD (Gibson—Minister for Police, Emergency Services and Correctional Services, Minister for Recreation, Sport and Racing) (14:19): I thank the member for Newland for the question and note that he is a very big advocate for road safety in his community. In fact, I know he has contacted my office a number of times around some issues in his community, and the member for Newland's engagement with SAPOL has proactively got policing out on Hancock Road, Bowen Road and Elizabeth Street in Tea Tree Gully and Milne Road in Ridgehaven. I thank him very much for that fine work that he is doing in his community. Those extra patrols have made sure that he is keeping his community safe, and he does an outstanding job with that.

It is with sorrow that I address the house on the passing, on 8 April 2009, of Ms Dorothy Pyatt OAM, one of South Australia Police's women policing pioneers. Dorothy May Pyatt OAM was born in London on 26 August 1918 and celebrated her 100th birthday last year.

The Hon. C.L. WINGARD (Gibson—Minister for Police, Emergency Services and Correctional Services, Minister for Recreation, Sport and Racing) (14:36): I thank the member for the very important question and know that the member for MacKillop, I hope like everyone in this place, is very keen to keep our entire community as safe as possible. In the wake of the terrible tragedies in Christchurch and Sri Lanka in recent weeks, it has highlighted the potential of terrorist ideology and extremism in our communities and the danger that is associated with that. We join with other nations around the world in condemning the actions that we have seen from extremists.
