Works have continued at the Oaklands Crossing Project over the past couple of months. Whilst this has caused some traffic delays, we appreciate everyone’s patience in navigating the work zone safely.
December 2018 Night Works
Night works will continue throughout December as a number of key activities are undertaken. These include the installation of underground traffic signals, road lighting conduit installations, underground power connections, stobie pole removals and SA Water asset investigation works. Stockpile zones will also be set up at different locations on site for construction crews to access.
Motorists are reminded that speed and lane restrictions remain in place and traffic management staff will be on site to advise commuters of changed traffic conditions.
Please see the map below detailing the specific work locations.
Have your say! “Oaklands Railway Station” or “Marion Centre Railway Station”
On 6 December 2018, the Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Local Government issued a Notice of Intent seeking public comment on a proposal to alter the name of the Oaklands Railway Station to Marion Centre Railway Station. A plan of the naming proposal can be viewed here.
If you would like to put forward your opinion on this proposal, submissions in writing may be lodged with the Surveyor-General, GPO Box 1354, Adelaide, S.A. 5001 by Thursday 3 January 2019.
Morphett Road Bridge Installation
Over the past week you may have noticed the towering crane dwarfing motorists driving through Oaklands Crossing. It was an impressive sight to see it lifting the concrete and steel works into place as the eastern side of the Morphett Road Bridge is built. If anyone managed to get some photos of the Crane, please feel free to send them into my office.
The Numbers at Work
It is often interesting to hear some of the more unknown facts about the Oaklands Crossing Project as we inch closer to the final product:
- 42,000 – the daily average number of vehicles which use Morphett Road (south of Oaklands Crossing)
- 41,900 – the daily average number of vehicles which use Diagonal Road and Morphett Road (north of Oaklands Crossing)
- 7,800 – the amount in tonnes of ballast that will be used
- 4,730 – the length in metres of track to be laid
- 3,530 – the number of concrete sleepers which will be installed as part of the construction works
- 160 – the number of jobs created as part of the Oaklands Crossing Project
