Business confidence in South Australia now lowest in the Country

Media Release

NAB’s January 2016 Monthly Business Survey reports that South Australia is now the lowest ranked state in terms of business confidence in Australia.

Not only is business confidence falling but South Australia also ranks second last in terms of business conditions in Australia.

In fact, South Australia experienced the sharpest reduction in business confidence in the country last month.

“Once again we see South Australia at the bottom of the ladder when it comes to business confidence and business conditions,” said Shadow Minister for Employment and Small Business Corey Wingard.

“This Government is failing to get results – in fact our results are getting worse by the month.

“The Weatherill Labor Government needs to do more to improve the broad economic settings in South Australia in order to support sustained investment and encourage people to do business here.

“South Australia also continues to have the highest unemployment rate in the nation.

"We need to urgently address the crisis of confidence in our small business sector and take action to support businesses to create jobs.

"I again urge the government to adopt the measures outlined in the State Liberals' Jobs Stimulus Plan released last year including:

  • Immediately cutting business taxes to allow business to grow and create more jobs;
  • Investing in new job creating infrastructure projects; and,
  • Providing immediate relief to families and households who are struggling under spiralling cost of living pressures.
