On Friday 23 August, together with the Hon David Speirs MP, we had the pleasure of hosting over 200 members of our local communities to host another of our successful Seniors Forums.
This month’s topic was Consumer Rights & Scams and we were extremely lucky to have guest speakers from Consumer and Business Services. They spoke about the different types of scams out there, how best to protect yourself against them and recounted some heartbreaking horror stories of those who have fallen prey to scammers.
The number of scams out there is ever increasing and with the advancements in technology, scammers are catching more people out. From impersonating well-known companies and agencies, to tricking people into obtaining your personal information or even gaining control over your computer or device, it is essential that we all know how to identify a scam and protect ourselves against them.
Coincidentally, Friday 23 August was also Daffodil Day and it was wonderful to see everyone who attended happily make a donation to Cancer Council SA and enjoy a yummy blue and yellow themed afternoon tea. We raised over $300 that afternoon and on behalf of David and myself, we would like to thank Sharon and Paul from Consumer and Business Services for spending the afternoon in my local community and to everyone who attended for their donations and contributions to such a worthy cause.
