I had the honour to officially open the new Minda Coast Park recently. This is something our community has been excited to see completed and it was wonderful to deliver it with Stephen Patterson - Member for Morphett and Amanda Wilson - Mayor, Holdfast Bay.
Coast Park is a State Government initiative to establish a 70km long coastal linear path along the metropolitan coastline. It is being delivered in stages by local government with the support of the State Government.
In conjunction with The City of Holdfast Bay, the State Government contributed $4.3 million to help design and construct a shared use pathway through Minda Dunes and create a link between Brighton and Glenelg.
The project includes:
- Public plaza near the Somerton Surf Life Saving Club.
- Boardwalks and shared use path.
- Education zone.
- Public art, seating, shade structure, fencing and public amenities.
- Southern plaza and upgraded carpark (Gladstone Road end).
It was heart warming to see so many people taking advantage of the new path, even before the ribbon had been cut. The new Coast Park will be an asset for generations to come and I look forward to getting my steps up along the path during the warmer months.
