On a positive note it has been refreshing to hear Prime Minister Turnbull speak positively about public transport and I have met with the new Federal Minister for Major Projects, Paul Fletcher, to discuss public transport infrastructure, and to make him aware of the Oaklands Crossing problem. While public transport is a state issue, under a new leadership this Federal Government is willing to discuss public transport solutions for the states and as such I will be including this project in future discussions.
Since the last listening post on the 30th October 2015 I have continued to following up with the State Government asking them to disclose what plans they have to fix Oaklands Crossing. I have asked the Minister to come and view the problem for himself but unfortunately at this point the State Government has not been forthcoming. I will keep pushing to find out more. It is worrying that the State Government will not discuss plans they have for this problem. As I receive any information it will be passed on to the community
I have also identified some track faults which caused speed restrictions around the Oaklands crossing intersection holding up train movement through the troubled area. This was outlined in a recent story in the Guardian Messenger which is also on the website. I am informed that issue has been improved and while it’s only a small win hopefully it has made the crossing a bit better.
