The next two weeks will see some major changes to the Oaklands Crossing, and set the scene for further upgrades down the track. Read on and I'll take you through what's starting this weekend.
1. The Scouts SA / Vietnam Veterans Clubrooms building will be demolished. This part of the upgrade was only able to go ahead once I was certain the Vietnam Vets had new facilities lined up, and I am pleased to confirm that this has gone through. The Vietnam Vets have been given the funds to build new clubrooms on Norfolk Road, Marion, next to the Marion RSL, and they are currently being temporarily housed at Netley. The old site on Addison Road will host project fencing, worker facilities and storage of plant and equipment for the next eight months while the upgrade is underway.
2. The Crozier Terrace commuter carpark will be closed. A temporary commuter carpark has already been established, and sits on the corner of Morphett and Diagonal Roads, in the old empty space next to Warradale Coles. Two more accessible parking spaces have also been set up on Murray Terrace with immediate access to Oaklands Station. The Kiss 'n' Ride drop off area on Murray Terrace will remain open throughout the upgrade.
3. Traffic management of adjoining roads. Murray Terrace, Crozier Terrace, Dwyer Road, Morphett Road, Addison Road and Railway Terrace will see traffic management measures introduced, including speed restrictions, lane restrictions and temporary road, pathway and carpark closures. This will assist workers in accessing the worksite safely.
These works will see some small impacts on residents, including slightly increased noise levels and possible dust generation. The construction team will take care to minimise impacts as much as they can, and street sweepers will be in use regularly throughout the upgrade. Traffic controllers will be around to ensure local residents can continue to access their properties.
As the project progresses, I will do all I can to keep you informed and I will do my best to keep disruption to a minimum. I know there will be some inconvenience along the way however the end result will definitely be worth it as we achieve our goal of Fixing Oaklands Crossing.
