The future of the O’Halloran Hill Tafe site has been uncertain to local residents over the past couple of years. Clarifying the Government’s plans for this site is something I have been keen to pursue as there is great potential to turn the site into a community precinct.
Over the course of this year I have had correspondence with both the State Treasurer and the Minister for Development and through this correspondence it was indicated that the property was being prepared for sale to the highest bidder.
While I appreciate the potential sale of sites like the O’Halloran Hill Tafe could inject much needed funds into the mismanaged State Budget, I am concerned there could be a lost opportunity to convert the site into community space for surrounding suburbs at the southern end of this terrific recreation park including Sheidow Park and Trott Park.
In June I formally met with Minister Rau and proposed putting a hold on the sale to discuss alternative options. I am very pleased to report that the Minister has agreed to hold off on selling straight away and I am now awaiting further notice from him on how the Government might reassess the future of this site.
