This morning marks a major win for our community, with funding announced for the grade separation of the Hove Railway Crossing at Brighton Road. This is a giant step forward to fixing traffic congestion and improving safety along the Brighton Road Corridor.
I had the pleasure to meet with the Premier Steven Marshall MP, Minister for Transport, the Hon Stephen Knoll MP, the Hon David Speirs MP and Federal Member for Boothby Nicolle Flint MP this morning to announce that $171 million has been jointly secured by the Marshall and Morrison Governments.
The Hon. C.L. WINGARD (Gibson—Minister for Police, Emergency Services and Correctional Services, Minister for Recreation, Sport and Racing) (12:10): I, too, rise today in support of this motion moved by the member for Hurtle Vale, and thank her for doing so. The motion:
(a) recognises National Volunteer Week 2019 from 20 to 26 May;
(b) acknowledges the valuable contribution that volunteers make to the economic and social wellbeing of local communities; and
(c) calls upon all South Australians to thank and show their appreciation to all volunteers in our community.Read more
Each day 27 South Australians will hear the words ‘you have cancer’. Many of these people will become survivors, their lives changed forever. But sadly, almost half will lose their lives, leaving behind a never-ending ripple effect on families and friends.Read more
Tucked away in a back street of Brighton hides the home of the Brighton Districts Table Tennis Club. Most people have probably walked past it without knowing, however the Club has been around since the mid-1950s and is still going strong.Read more
On Saturday 25 May I attended the official opening of the Oaklands Estate Reserve Upgrade. Despite the rain and cold weather, it was fantastic to see how the upgrades have blended with nature and created a beautiful reserve for all ages to enjoy. I feel so lucky to have such a wonderful community space in our own backyard.Read more
The Hon. C.L. WINGARD (Gibson—Minister for Police, Emergency Services and Correctional Services, Minister for Recreation, Sport and Racing) (14:50): I truly thank the member for King for her interest in this. This is a great initiative and a very important project for South Australia. I am pleased to inform the house that this is another example of how well the Marshall government and the Morrison government have come together to jointly fund an exciting and innovative project. The new community transition and learning centre will be built in Coober Pedy and, again, this is how and why we are delivering better services for South Australia.Read more
The Hon. C.L. WINGARD (Gibson—Minister for Police, Emergency Services and Correctional Services, Minister for Recreation, Sport and Racing) (14:19): I thank the member for Newland for the question and note that he is a very big advocate for road safety in his community. In fact, I know he has contacted my office a number of times around some issues in his community, and the member for Newland's engagement with SAPOL has proactively got policing out on Hancock Road, Bowen Road and Elizabeth Street in Tea Tree Gully and Milne Road in Ridgehaven. I thank him very much for that fine work that he is doing in his community. Those extra patrols have made sure that he is keeping his community safe, and he does an outstanding job with that.Read more

It is with sorrow that I address the house on the passing, on 8 April 2009, of Ms Dorothy Pyatt OAM, one of South Australia Police's women policing pioneers. Dorothy May Pyatt OAM was born in London on 26 August 1918 and celebrated her 100th birthday last year.Read more
The Hon. C.L. WINGARD (Gibson—Minister for Police, Emergency Services and Correctional Services, Minister for Recreation, Sport and Racing) (14:36): I thank the member for the very important question and know that the member for MacKillop, I hope like everyone in this place, is very keen to keep our entire community as safe as possible. In the wake of the terrible tragedies in Christchurch and Sri Lanka in recent weeks, it has highlighted the potential of terrorist ideology and extremism in our communities and the danger that is associated with that. We join with other nations around the world in condemning the actions that we have seen from extremists.Read more
