Resurfacing works are finally beginning on Lonsdale Highway and Majors Road. These roads have been in poor condition for too long and it is good to see the government is finally listening to our requests, however there is still more that needs to be done.
The surface of Majors Road has long been in poor condition with a history of subsidence causing the road surface to undulate significantly.
After making many requests on behalf of constituents to the Minister for Transport and Infrastructure asking that Majors Road be maintained and upgraded for safety reasons since being elected, I am pleased to see that the Minister has taken this advice on board and works have begun.
The roadworks are happening on:
• Lonsdale Road between Majors Road and Barramundi Drive; and
• Majors Road between Lonsdale Road and the Southern Expressway.
The Minister has informed me that these resurfacing works are to repair road surface undulations that have accumulated over time, and to improve safety and ride quality. The night works will be occurring between 7:00pm and 6:00am. The works began on the 7th of September and are expected to take several days, depending on weather conditions.
I am pleased that after significant pressure, the Transport Department is finally resurfacing these sections of road but I note the stretch of Majors Rd from the Southern Expressway to South Rd has been over looked for an upgrade. I will continue to make representations to the Minister asking when the remainder of Majors Road will be completed.
