Crossing War Continues

SOURCE: The Advertiser, Tuesday September 27 2016

It was disappointing to read this article in the Advertiser on Tuesday 27 September and see the same sentiment on Channel 9 news on Saturday 24 September.

Over the past two years our community based campaign has drawn great attention to this ongoing issue. Recent achievements by this campaign include a $40 million commitment from the Federal Turnbull Government and it has also dragged Premier Jay Weatherill away from North Terrace and out to the suburbs for the first time in a long time to see this issue firsthand.

While the Premier has given a "token appearance" on the issue it is clear he hasn't committed any money from his budget nor has he began the proper process with the Federal Government to move this project forward. In fact, he hasn't even had the Department of Planning Transport and Infrastructure do any costed engineered plans for the project.

So while Premier Weatherill has again tried to put some "spin" on what he's done about Oakland's Crossing it is clear the true costing work hasn't been undertaken. On the positive side of the ledger at least the Premier now knows where Oaklands Crossing is!!

I have been fighting for this project for a number of years and I will continue to push the Premier and the Transport Minister to come up with proper costed and engineered designs and a genuine solution that will best suit our community.

I recently put a motion before Parliament calling on the State Government to find a solution to the Oaklands crossing – visit to see my speech.
