South Australian commuters should prepare themselves for chaos on the transport network as tram drivers go on strike today.
Adelaide’s tram service will be shut down between 10am and 2pm today.
The State Liberals understand that enterprise agreement negotiations between tram drivers and the State Government have been going on for more than 18 months.
“Transport Minister Stephen Mullighan needs to step in and sort this out immediately,” said Shadow Minister for Transport Corey Wingard.
“I understand that these wage negotiations have been going on for more than 18 months – how could the Weatherill Labor Government let it get to this point?
“The Weatherill Labor Government’s inaction has directly lead to today’s commuter chaos.
“Not only will there be disruptions on the tram network, but Adelaide commuters should also expect more congested roads due to extra cars and buses travelling during this time.
“Mr Mullighan cannot shirk responsibility for today’s strike – he is the person responsible for delivering transport services.
“These negotiations should have been resolved a long time ago, but Minister Mullighan has just shoved his head in the sand.
“Minister Mullighan must now immediately ensure that this situation is resolved so that no further disruptions occur.”
