It is great to see Westfield announce their plans to further grow the biggest suburban shopping centre in our state and one of the biggest in the country.
I have been in close contact with centre management throughout this process and I congratulate them on the announcement. I have already met with the Aldi management and they are very excited about coming into the precinct.
This will present a brilliant opportunity to bring more jobs into our community, benefitting all people but especially young people. South Australia has the highest unemployment rate on the mainland making developments like this even more vital.
On a sad note the cost of doing business in this state has forced the Hyde Leather shop to close. I know Lucy and Roger well and wish them all the best. Daily grind skate shop has also relocated to Glenelg. I wish Warwick well there too.
This development at Westfield Marion is an opportune time to also remind the government that they need to come forward with a plan, time line and costing for the Oaklands train crossing. I am working with council and with this new extension at Westfield modelling for the extra traffic flow would have to give support to a solution to this traffic problem being found.
If you'd like to support our push for a solution please make sure you register at our website www.fixoaklandscrossing.com.au I look forward to continuing to work with everyone in the community to making our local area and the state of South Australia better for generations to come.
