It was fantastic to visit the Sturt-Marion Thunder soccer club in June. I met the new president of the club Binny Moon, who showed me around the facilities they have available at the club. We spoke about what the club has to offer, and the importance of sport in the community. After COVID-19 has meant we have to adapt how we socialise, this reinforced the critical role sport plays in building a sense of community.
I congratulated the club on receiving $1,900 in the Round 49 Active Club Grants in 2020. This was used to contribute to the upkeep of the club. The Active Club Program runs to help our community sporting clubs with grants up to $3,000 available.
This was a share of $2.49 million that the Marshall Liberal Government dedicated to helping sporting clubs in our state. These grants were used by 1,236 different clubs around the state. This was part of the $21 million the Marshall Liberal Government has dedicated to support sports and recreation throughout the pandemic.
I look forward to visiting the club again in the future and keeping up with their results.
