Along with David Speirs MP, today I hosted my annual Winter Warmer & Fundraiser event to bring people together while supporting a local organisation or charity.
This year, we supported the Sophia Naismith Foundation, which was created in memory of 15-year-old Sophia Naismith who tragically died after being hit by a car in 2019.
The Sophia Naismith Foundation has a very positive impact on the lives of young people in our community, and tonight we were able to raise more than $9,000 to support the Foundation to continue carrying out its exceptional work.
Tonight, 150 guests including volunteers and community leaders gathered at Patritti Wines in Dover Gardens. We enjoyed live music from Brighton Secondary School's band and delicious paella cooked onsite.
I also presented my 2021 Community Recognition Awards to individuals who have gone above and beyond in our community.
Award winners included Tony for volunteering with Marion Council as part of its Graffiti Removal Unit; Mary-Jane for her volunteering with St Jude's Players; Kinda Snyder for her work with the Friends of Pine Gully; Brett Yardley for his contribution to Brighton and Seacliff Yacht Club; and Marion City Lions Club for their rapid rise and important role in our local community.
With raffles, door prizes and a silent auction, everyone enjoyed themselves and donated generously to the Sophia Naismith Foundation.
I look forward to running my next Winter Warmer and Fundraiser next year!
