SA leading the way on the ban of single-use plastics

I know many members of our community have been following with great interest in the Marshall Government's work to deliver progressive environmental reform.

Today marks the commencement of the State Government's ban on the sale and distribution of a number of single-use plastic products here in South Australia.

We are the first jurisdiction in the country to pass pioneering legislation that bans single-use plastic items including cutlery, straws and drink stirrers.

I am incredibly proud to be part of a community that is already pioneering in this area - Jetty Road Brighton Traders and Brighton Surf Life Saving Club has been leading the way as a plastics free precinct for the past two years.

This important reform will secure South Australia as a national leader in waste management.
