On Saturday 18 July, I stood amid a sea of black and gold jerseys to cheer from the sidelines as the Brighton Rugby Union Football Club played their first round of home games for the season.
On this special day, the clubrooms were also officially opened. I joined Holdfast Bay Mayor Amanda Wilson and Club President Wayne Londema in front of a very excited crowd to cut a black and gold ribbon to mark this occasion.
Cutting this ribbon was another step in the long process towards completing the oval’s redevelopment. It was all the way in June last year that we turned the first sod at Brighton Oval with the Premier present. While that was an exciting moment, it’s even more thrilling to see how far the project’s come today.
Along the way, many people have gone above and beyond in their contributions to a project that benefits the local community that uses it.
