Mayor Hanna gets it embarrassingly wrong on Oaklands Crossing

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull confirmed on ABC breakfast radio this week that the Federal Government's $40 million promise to help fix Oaklands crossing is still very much committed, despite claims to the contrary by Marion Mayor Kris Hanna.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull confirmed on ABC breakfast radio this week that the Federal Government’s $40 million promise to help fix Oaklands crossing is still very much committed, despite claims to the contrary by Marion Mayor Kris Hanna.

When talking about South Australian projects in the Federal Budget with Matt and Dave, Prime Minister Turnbull was asked specifically about Oaklands Crossing and he said, “We’ve offered $40 million to go towards it.”

This is embarrassing for Mayor Kris Hanna as he has falsely claimed the money had been removed and the project is not budgeted for.
“The Mayor’s statements were just plain wrong. He should have known better than to take what Labor says on face value,” said the Member for Mitchell Corey Wingard.

“If he was confused he should have contacted the Federal Minister responsible and sought clarification.

“The Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester has also confirmed the money is very much on the table to help fix Oaklands Crossing.

“The State Government has not put this project to Infrastructure Australia as requested and they are playing games with the people in my community and the people of South Australia. Sadly, Mayor Hanna has now been sucked into these games and become a casualty.

“I have been campaigning hard with the local community for almost four years now with my FixOaklandsCrossing.com.au campaign to get a solution for this ongoing problem.

“I have repeatedly said we need to know the full costings and I am committed to working toward finding the right solution.

“So it is disappointing to have wrong information circulated in our community by Mayor Kris Hanna.”
